Don’t Play Chess
A Chess Set by luccaGranelli
While philosophizing about my project, these were the forms directing my thoughts
First set 3d modeled in fusion360 and 3D printed
Formal Exploration
after a midpoint critique, I revised the set using feedback. This set was still modled in Fusion360, but made with a much more sophisticated understanding of surface and forms mode.
Fabricating
To counteract cure inhibition, peices were baked after demolding
With these thoughts and forms in my mind, my pen found the homind forms I would go on to explore for the rest of the project
I started experimenting with flesh toned silicone as a way of discomforting the user, furthering the thesis of the work.
I Found 42 durameter platnium cure silicone mixed with oil paint produced a vibrant, squishy sample.
I first tried to make a two part silicone gang mold of sandblasted resin prints. However, airbubbles caused a few surface defects which made it unusable as a mold for silicone parts.
Molds were instead resin printed, then sandblasted for surface quality
To make the chessboard, I 3d printed an open pour mold of the base, then filled each square with the color recipe for each side.
I found that chess is a game that is foundational to the long dark human tradition of glorifying violence and war into an art.
Thus,
dont play chess.
These hominid forms blend different elements of human anatomy to create these uncomfortable, burdenend and beastly geometries that remind the user of the act they are comitting.
